Medicine has been taught at Newcastle since 1834. Throughout our modern history, we have been at the forefront of curriculum innovation in medicine. Our integrated approach sweeps away the traditional separation between pre-clinical and clinical training, bringing you into contact with patients from the very start of your course.

The Medical School at Newcastle is a Regional Medical School and works closely with partners in North Cumbria, Northumbria, Tyne and Wear, and Teesside. We also work closely with Durham University and the Northern Region NHS to make full use of the excellent clinical training opportunities offered by the large patient population and the region-wide infrastructure of acute hospitals, general practices and public health units. For students interested in pursuing a period of research, Newcastle is a Centre of Excellence in bench-to-bedside (so-called translational) research.
